Hyundai Accent Stereo Installation

Installing a new stereo into the Hyundai Accent does not require professional assistance. The stock stereo can be easily extracted from the Accent's stereo mounting dock with standard tools and a few minute's time.

Things You'll Need

  • 10-mm wrench
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Faceplate adapter
  • Wiring harness adapter
  • Lift the Hyundai's hood to access the battery. Loosen the bolt on the negative battery cable's clamp with the wrench. Lift the cable from the battery and set it aside. Move to the inside of the Accent.

  • Locate and disconnect the temperature and blend cables under the driver's side dashboard. The two cables are as thick as a wire coat hanger and can be disconnected from their seating by hand with a medium amount of force. Allow both cables to hang freely under the dash.

  • Open the glove compartment. Squeeze the sides of the compartments door to allow it to hang below the dashboard. Reach into the back of the compartment and disconnect the ventilation cable (similar to the temperature and blend cables).

  • Open the cup holders. Remove the two screws in the back of the cup-holder compartment with the Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Grab the bottom edge of the trim panel that surrounds the stereo and climate controls. Pull the panel from the dashboard and set it aside. Remove the two screws on either side of the stereo with the screwdriver. Slide the stereo from the Accent's dock. Disconnect the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the Hyundai's stock stereo unit.

  • Slide the faceplate adapter into the stereo dock. Feed the stereo wiring and antenna cable through the back of the faceplate adapter. Plug the stereo wiring into the wiring harness adapter leads.

  • Connect the wiring harness adapter lead connectors to the outlets on the back of the aftermarket stereo. Insert the antenna cable lead into the FM antenna outlet on the rear panel of the new stereo. Slide the stereo into the faceplate adapter until it snaps into place within the Hyundai's stereo dock.

  • Place the dash panel back over the stereo and climate controls. Press firmly around the edges of the panel to snap it back into place on the dash. Replace the screws in the back of the cup holder compartment. Close the cup holders.

  • Connect the ventilation cable in the back of the glove compartment and the temperature and blend cables under the driver's side dashboard. Close the glove compartment. Return to the Accent's battery.

  • Place the negative battery cable clamp back onto the negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable's clamp to the post with the wrench. Close the Hyundai's hood.
