How do I Remove the Speaker on a 2006 Chevy Silverado?

The 2006 Silverado contains stereo speakers in each of the main doors and in the rear corner trim panels. The 2006 year model is one of numerous full-size GM trucks that install the speakers differently than others. You don't have to worry about rivets, bolts, screws or other fasteners holding them in place. The speakers use special locking tabs that secure them within the frame and panels.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Hooked tool
  • Trim stick
  • Screwdriver
  • DIsconnect the truck's negative battery cable.

  • Remove the window controls if you are working on a door trim panel: Disconnect a manual crank's clip with a hooked tool inserted behind the handle, or pry off the switch controls with a trim stick and disconnect the electrical connectors

  • Pry off and remove all other trim bezels on the panel with the aid of your trim stick. On the door panel, for example, remove the bezel around the door handle and the armrest.

  • Unscrew and remove all the mounting screws for the trim panel. Pry the panel's clips off the frame with the trim stick and lift it off the frame.

  • Grab hold of the speaker in your hand and press on the mounting tab with your closest fingers--likely your index and middle ones. The tab is at the top of a door speaker and at the back end of a rear speaker.

  • Lean and pivot the speaker toward you and out of its mount along the lower/front tabs. Disconnect the electrical connector from the speaker and remove it from the tabs.
