How do I Install Speakers in a 2004 Honda Accord?

If you're considering upgrading the sound system of your 2004 Honda Accord, one of the best places to start is with the speakers. The 2004 Honda Accord featured speakers in two locations---the front doors and the rear deck. Accessing both locations will involve some disassembly of interior panels and trim, but the job is well within the capabilities of the average do-it-yourself enthusiast.

Things You'll Need

  • Panel tool
  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver

Front Door Speakers

  • Pry out the triangular sail panel from the top edge of the door panel. Slide the edge of the panel tool underneath the panel and lever upwards to release it.

  • Pry out the circular screw cover behind the door release trim with a small flat-blade screwdriver. Unscrew and remove two Phillips screws from behind the cover.

  • Pry out the rubber screw cover in the bottom of the door pull cup with a screwdriver. Remove the single Phillips screw from beneath the cover.

  • Insert the panel tool behind the edge of the door panel and pry around the perimeter to release the clips holding the door panel in place. Lift the panel off of the door to remove it.

  • Unscrew the Phillips screws holding the speaker in place. Remove the speaker from the door, unplugging the connector on the back.

  • Plug the new speaker in, place it in the door and screw it into place. Reassemble the door panel.

Rear Deck Speakers

  • Pry up the grill by inserting the edge of a panel tool under the corner and prying up.

  • Remove the Phillips screws holding the speaker in place. Remove the speaker and unplug the connector on the back.

  • Plug the new speaker in, place it in the door and screw it into place. Place the grill back onto the speaker opening and press firmly downwards to seat it in place.
