The 2001 Ford Focus was offered in three different body styles; three-door hatchback, wagon and four door sedan. The LX and SE trim packages came standard with a 2.0-liter, 110 HP four-cylinder engine. The sportier ZX3 and ZTS models received 20 additional horsepower from the 2.0-liter power plant. No matter what trim package your 2001 Ford Focus has, you may wish to install a high-performance aftermarket stereo system or replace a defective radio with a factory replacement unit. Removing your original radio from your 2001 Ford Focus is an easy task provided you have the correct tools.
Remove the two "U" shaped tools from your Ford/Mazda radio removal kit.
Locate the two small holes visible on each side of the radio. Insert each "U" shaped tool into the holes provided on both sides of the radio. You should hear a faint snapping noise when each tool into the radio properly.
Bend the "U" shaped tools outward slightly with your hands while pulling the radio out of the center console. Pull the radio out just enough to expose the wiring connections located on the back of the unit.
Pull off the thick black antenna connection located on the right side of the radio.
Disconnect the large yellow connection harness from the radio by depressing the connector's middle tab and pulling it off the unit. Disconnect the two remaining black connection harnesses from the radio in the same manner to complete the stereo removal process.
