How to Remove a Toyota Stereo From a 2001 Tacoma

The stock stereo in a 2001 Toyota Tacoma doesn't have a lot of extra features, but it covers the basics. Of course, you can upgrade by installing an aftermarket deck in your truck. It should only take about 15 minutes to remove your old unit.

  • Remove the climate control knobs from the dashboard by holding them in your hands and pulling them straight off of the dash. Pull the climate control trim panel off of the dashboard. Unscrew the two Phillips-head screws under the panel.

  • Grip the bezel around the radio with your hands and pull it straight off of the dashboard to release the clips. Unscrew the stereo from the dashboard.

  • Pull the stereo out of the dashboard with both hands. Then disconnect the electrical connections on the backside of the deck with your hands. Place the radio on a clean work surface. Unscrew the stereo from the mounting brackets.
