How to Remove the CD Player in a Ford Escape

Changing out your factory stereo for an aftermarket model can give you added features such as navigation, CD changer controls or even satellite radio. But to do that to your Ford Escape, you first need to remove the stock stereo, which at first can seem like a daunting task. If you have the right tools and a little bit of guidance, you can remove the stock CD player in your Escape in just a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Ford DIN radio removal tools
  • Look at the stereo and locate the two holes on either side of the stereo. Place the Ford DIN radio removal tools in the holes so that one of the tools is in one pair on the side, and the other mirrors it. Push them in until they click into place.

  • Pull on the Ford DIN radio removal tool to remove the stereo from the dashboard. Once it's out, hold it with one hand while you unplug the tools from the dash.

  • Unplug the factory wiring harness from the back of the stereo as well as the antenna cable by hand. Then set the radio to the side.
