How to Remove & Install a CD Player in a Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai offers relatively few options for CD players for the Elantra. Owners who want to install an aftermarket CD deck can have the job done professionally, or they can follow a few simple steps and replace their CD player themselves.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Hyundai Adapter Harness

How to Remove & Install a CD Player in a Hyundai Elantra

  • Disconnect the grounding wire from the battery to the Elantra's frame.

  • Remove the dash panel trim covering the CD player. To do this, you need to first remove the ash tray. Remove the screws behind the ash tray along with the two screws in the dash panel above the speedometer. Pull the panel away from the dashboard. Reach behind the panel and disconnect all the electrical connectors before completely removing it.

  • Remove the old CD player. To do this, unscrew the two screws on each side of the player, and the screw on each side of the player housing unit. The CD player can then be pulled free from the dash. Disconnect the wiring connected to the rear of the old CD player, including the antenna.

  • Connect the new CD player. The easiest way to do this is by using a wiring harness adapter. If you do not have one, you will have to connect the color coded wires directly to the new CD player. Be sure to remember to connect the antenna wire.

  • Place the new CD player into the brackets now emptied by the old CD player. Replace the screws to secure the new deck in place.

  • Replace the dash trim by pushing the panel until it is completely "clicked" in. Replace the screws in the ash tray opening. Replace the ash tray. Replace the two screws above the speedometer to fully secure the dash trim panel.

  • Reconnect the battery cables. Test the CD player.
