How to Install Car Speakers on a Ford Focus

  • Disconnect the battery then get a small Phillips screwdriver and unscrew all the screws along the driver's side door panel. Test to see which screwdriver size fits because not all Ford Focus models are the same. Make sure to unscrew carefully so you do not strip the screws.

  • Lift up from the bottom to remove the door panel. Be patient and try to pull up from the top and push from the bottom at the same time. Don't be afraid to use a little force. Jiggle and shimmy the panel until it is removed.

  • Set the panel and the cloth insert aside. Save the screws from your door in a container so you do not lose them. Take a different Phillips screwdriver and remove the screws holding in the speaker. These screws will be a different size so you need to test to see which size screwdriver will fit.

  • Put the screws from the speaker in a separate container so that they are not confused with the door panel screws. Cut the ends of the speaker wires off with pliers and disconnect the speaker. Use a pair of wire splitters and split the wire so that there is enough to connect to your new speakers.

  • Twist the speaker wire coming from the inside of the door to the wire of the new speakers. Make sure it is tight. Wrap electrical tape around the exposed wire to secure the connection.

  • Reconnect the battery and test to see if the speakers are working properly. Make adjustments if there is a problem with the sound. Screw the speaker back into place and reassemble the door panel when the speaker is working fine.

  • Disconnect the battery and repeat process for the front passenger side and back passenger side doors. Reconnect the battery when everything is secure and working properly.
