The Dodge Intrepid was a full size entry with an edgy design focused at young families not yet ready for a minivan. Early Dodge Intrepid models are likely in need of an audio upgrade and with the right parts and a few tips, swapping out the original stereo for a new head unit
takes less than an hour.
Prepare the car for the installation. Pull the negative battery cable form the terminal and ensure it doesn't touch any metal parts. Push the driver's seat all the way back to make room to move.
Pry gently at the upper right corner of the trim panel that surrounds the stereo. Apply steady pressure at each corner until the clips release and pull the panel away from the dash.
Locate and remove the two screws, one on each side of the radio. Pull the Dodge Intrepid stereo out of the dash and disconnect the wires from the back of the head unit.
Connect the wiring harness adaptor to the original harness and let the wires hang out the front of the dash. Slide the stereo into the Chrysler mounting kit and connect the harness and antenna wire to the back of the new stereo.
Slide the entire assembly into the dash, taking care not to kink the wires as the radio slides into place. Connect the negative battery cable and turn the radio on.
Test each speaker and the new radio's controls. Screw the two bolts back in place at the front of the radio and snap the trim back into place.
