How to Attach a Thule Cargo Carrier to a Roof Rack

Thule makes cargo boxes that fit nicely onto most car factory racks. The Thule Frontier is one of the least expensive cargo boxes that can accommodate skis, snowboards, fly rods or camping gear. Getting it to fit on your car's luggage rack is a breeze. Once outfitted, your family can hit the road to your weekend destination with all your gear riding safely upon the roof.

Things You'll Need

  • Car or SUV with a factory installed luggage rack
  • Thule 668ES Frontier Cargo Box
  • Lift the Thule box onto your car's factory rack with the help of another person.

  • Set your crossbars to the widest setting that will line up with the Frontier's hole pattern.

  • Move the box fore and aft to properly line up the mounting holes.

  • Open the cargo box and remove all of the hardware from the enclosed plastic bag.

  • Attach the rubber shim to the bottom of the Easy-Snap hardware. Lift up the red safety tab and twist the blue handle counterclockwise. Repeat with the remaining four Easy-Snap hardware pieces.

  • Click the Easy-Snap hardware into the appropriate mounting holes in the box. Assure that the safety tab is lined up with the rear of the car.

  • Position the hardware on top of the crossbars and guide the "U" bolt up through the bottom until it fits snugly.

  • Twist the blue handle until it stops. Lower the red safety tab.

  • Repeat the above steps with the other three Easy-Snap hardware pieces.

  • Affix the black vinyl hole covers to the unused mounting holes to waterproof the entire carrier.
