How to Custom Paint a Car Dashboard

Customizing the dash in your car is a great way to add personal flair to your car. Adding a custom paintjob that matches your cars color scheme is an affordable option that will really set your car apart.

Things You'll Need

  • Painters tape
  • Paint thinner
  • Spray paint clear coat
  • Spray paint primer
  • Old newspaper
  • Spray paint color
  • Old clothes hangers
  • Determine which parts of your dash you wish to paint. Hard plastic parts are generally the only parts you will want to paint.

  • Purchase the necessary spray painting supplies: primer, paint color you desire and clear coat. You should also consider a paint thinner and painters tape.

  • Use your owners manual to determine how to remove each part you wish to paint.

  • Clean the items you wish to paint with soapy water and let dry.

  • Hang each piece with a clothes hanger or place them on old newspaper to be painted. Follow the directions on the paint cans to apply the primer, then color and finally the clear coat.

  • Reassemble your now customized dash after the paint has had ample time to dry.
