How to Program a Yukon Ignition Key

GMC vehicles are among the many different types of automobiles equipped with electronic key capabilities. One such vehicle, the Yukon, allows you to program your own keys in just minutes directly from your driver's seat. These keys, also known as chip keys or transponder keys, can be programmed as many as four at a time. Once programmed, you will be able to use the keys right away with your vehicle.

  • Enter your Yukon and insert the electronic key into the car's ignition.

  • Turn the key to the "On" position and leave it in that position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

  • Turn the key back to the "Off" position after the 10:30 has elapsed. Be sure to do this within 45 seconds of the end of the 10:30.

  • Repeat the previous two steps two more times, for a total of three 10 minute 30 second cycles.

  • Turn the vehicle back to the "On" position and start the vehicle to complete the programming sequence.
