Since its introduction, a wide variety of different engines have been featured in the Pathfinder. While some like the 5.6 liter V8 are extremely performance-oriented and feature large amounts of torque and horsepower, some of the smaller V6 engines are anemic and could benefit from additional horsepower. Despite the wide variety of Pathfinder models available, there are several improvements that will increase the horsepower of any Pathfinder regardless of the model year or engine size.

Things You'll Need

  • K&N air filter
  • Pathfinder performance chip
  • Performance muffler
  • Chip removal tool
  • Locate the vehicle's airbox under the hood and remove the factory air filter. Insert the K&N performance filter and close the hood.

  • Open the hood and disconnect the vehicle's positive battery terminal. Locate the vehicle's ECU and remove the factory chip using the chip removal tool. Carefully align all of the pins on the new chip with the ECU sockets before inserting the new chip. Push the chip firmly into place and reconnect the vehicle's battery.

  • Install the muffler by removing the first removing the factory unit and securing the new performance muffler. It may be necessary to take the vehicle to an exhaust specialist who has the correct welding tools and expertise to ensure a safe and correct fit.
