How to Troubleshoot a Genie Medallion Series

The Genie Medallion series is a garage door remote control designed so that it can be programmed quickly to be compatible with your electric garage door opener. Like any other electronic device, you may be experiencing bugs or glitches, such as your door not opening when you press the button. There are quick ways to troubleshoot the problem with your Genie.

Things You'll Need

  • Microfiber cloth
  • Locate the sensor LED warning light on the motor assembly of the unit. If the sensor LED light is blinking, there's a problem with the sensors, which may be preventing your Genie control from working. Clean the sensors thoroughly with a microfiber cloth and plug the wires on the sensors securely into their ports.

  • Check the garage door for and clear any obstructions preventing it from closing completely. If the area is obstructed, the door will raise up every time it hits the obstruction.

  • Check the red emergency release cord on the motor assembly of the unit and verify it hasn't been pulled. If it has, the door will not raise or lower. Reset the cord if it has been pulled.

  • Slide the battery door off of the rear of the remote control and replace the old batteries with new ones.

  • Press the top button on the remote controller. If the remote still doesn't work, program it according to the instructions for your specific Genie Medallion model (see Resources).
