LED Light Bar Installation

LED light bars are made to enhance auto lights, in particular the back ends of pickup trucks. These light bars attach to the rear bumpers and give additional lighting so other drivers on the road see the truck at night or low light conditions. There are different methods of installation for different makers' light bar products, but all share the same basic formula. The installation should take about 30 minutes in a home shop.

Things You'll Need

  • Power drill and bits
  • Phillips or flathead screwdriver (optional)
  • Black electric tape
  • Scissors or utility knife
  • Crimpers
  • Clean off the area on the bumper where the LED light bar is installed. Use soapy water and a sponge to clean. Let the area dry.

  • Drill out mounting screw holes on the bumper with the power drill. Screw the LED light bar to the bumper via the drilled out holes. Alternately, use double-sided adhesive tape provided with the LED light bar installation kit.

  • Plug the LED light bar connections into the light wire plugs if your truck or auto has a trailer hitch and light plugs. If it does not, align each colored wire on the LED light bar to the same colored wire at the truck or auto light cords near the center of the bumper. For example, twist and connect the green wire to the green, yellow to yellow and white to white.

  • Place a piece of black electric tape over the wires and crimp down.
