How to Remove a Front Cap Off of a Chevrolet Truck

The front of a Chevrolet truck comes with a cap that's mounted on the front bumper. This cap is either painted to match the truck or left in a rough black finish to designate the lower-end work truck models. If you own one of the work truck models, you can remove your cap to either get it painted or to replace it with a new cap to give your truck the look of a higher-up model. Removing the front cap takes about 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Park the Chevrolet on a level surface with the front bumper sitting in the sunlight. Let the truck sit for at least an hour so the plastic on the bumper cap can heat up, making it more pliable and easier to remove.

  • Lay on your back underneath the truck with your face looking up towards the underside of the cap. Locate the clips holding the cap to the metal bumper. There are at least 20 of these clips running the width of the bumper.

  • Position yourself on one side of the bumper. Pinch the clip on the cap at the end of the bumper with the pliers and push the clip up until it comes free of the metal bumper. Work your way across the width of the cap undoing one clip at a time with the pliers until the cap is free of the bumper.

  • Crawl out from under the truck and pull the cap off of the bumper.
