How to Install B&W Trailer Hitches

B&W are famous for their turnover ball, manufactured since 1991. In a matter of seconds the turnover ball converts a level pickup bed into a tow package for fifth-wheel recreational vehicles and gooseneck-hitched trailers, and the reversal procedure is just as quick. The B&W hitch requires only minimal structural alteration to the truck, and a system is available to fit all full-size trucks manufactured since 1991. The B&W trailer hitch is rated to 30,000-pounds Gross Trailer Weight and 7,500-pounds of Vertical Tongue Weight.

Things You'll Need

  • B&W turnover trailer hitch
  • Electric drill
  • Hole saw
  • Socket set
  • Impact wrench (optional)
  • Clean the underside of your truck, and allow it to air dry.

  • Offer up the hitch assembly to its intended location beneath the truck bed. The B&W Turnover Ball Hitch is supplied as a one-piece unit plus the reversible ball. Confirm that the hitch's external braces are the exact width of the space between the chassis rails of your truck, and that the holes in the braces match exactly with preexisting receivers in the rails.

  • Use the template or measurement guide provided with the B&W trailer hitch to mark a four-inch diameter round cut-out on the topside of the truck bed. Double-check the measurements and marks. Use an electric drill and a properly-sized hole saw to cut out the hole.

  • Hold the assembly in place -- this is more easily done with the help of an assistant -- and feed the provided bolt/sprung washer assemblies through the four holes in the braces and into the receivers in the chassis rails. Finger-tighten each bolt to ensure the threads have caught, then tighten them using a socket set or impact wrench. It is imperative that the torques recommended by the installation instructions be achieved.

  • Check the reversible application of the ball. When installed in its tow configuration it should protrude with its full operational extent above the bed, and when upside-down in its storage configuration the bed floor should be flat and unobstructed.
