How to Install Thule Fairing

Thule makes sports racks and storage shells for cars and trucks, including roof racks that use cross bars and towers. The rack is the base product, onto which you can add bike cradles, surfboard or ski racks, storage clamshells, and kayak and canoe cradles. The Thule fairing is designed to attach to the racks at the front of the rack, giving the vehicle better wind resistance over the racks and sporting gear. The Thule fairing requires no tools to assemble or attach to the rack.

Things You'll Need

  • Thule rack
  • Set the two fairing wings out and the bracket. Push the bracket attachment slit onto the wing snaps and twist them up and over 90 degrees.

  • Place the fairing onto the bracket and wings. Push the two bracket tabs for each wing and bracket into the tab holes, securing the fairing to the brackets and wings.

  • Position the last two brackets to the back of the fairing and push the bracket tabs into the bracket holes. The result is four brackets attached to the back of the fairing, with the wings at the ends of the fairing.

  • Peel the paper off the bottom of the foam adhesive bracket attachments and stick them to the bracket feet.

  • Press the load bar clamps onto the square Thule cross bars, making sure the tabs face the roof of the car. Push the square-head bolts through the clamp holes and twist the three-wing attachment knobs to the bottom of the bolts. Turn to secure into the bars.

  • Push the rubber spacers onto the bracket attachment bars.

  • Place the fairing onto the tabs and brackets and align the middle clamp to the center of the fairing bracket and the end brackets to the end clamps. Peel the protective film backing off the sticker and place the roof protective sticker under the fairing.
