How to Stop Honda Element Road Noise

The Honda Element is a crossover SUV, with its body design based on that of the Honda CRV. Honda will discontinue its production after 2010. Reducing the outside noise when driving can create a smoother and less tiring experience behind the wheel. You can accomplish this with some pre-emptive actions.

Instructions

  • Drive at the speed limit. When your Element exceeds 60 or 70 mph, wind will strike the vehicle with greater force and create noise. This "air drag" will also force your engine to work harder against the resistance.

  • Install a new exhaust system. This will generally include a muffler and exhaust pipe and both components will help reduce road noise. A muffler will physically insulate the vibrating sounds from the driveshaft and the engine while the pipe will allow exhaust to exit the engine faster. This will improve the efficiency of combustion and results in less noise.

  • Install a noise-deadening material such as Dynamat in the hood of your car. This sheet will absorb noise. You can purchase Dynamat or other materials online and at any auto shop.

  • Check to see that the spark plugs and belts are still in good running shape. Damaged hoses can cause unnecessary sounds, and a torn belt will also create noise during its revolving process. Replacing these components is a quick way to reduce the engine noise.

  • Spray insulating foam into your door panels. Door panels are generally hollow and will transmit sounds and rattle very easily. The insulating foam will create an added layer that will absorb energy and prevent excessive road noise from entering the cabin.
