How to Install a Chrome Fuel Door on a Dodge Challenger

The Dodge Challenger has tons of aftermarket options, including chrome panels and accessories for the external body of the vehicle, also known as "chroming out" your ride. If you've added other chrome additions to your vehicle's frame, the next step is to replace the factory fuel door with a chrome fuel door. Adding this chrome fuel door takes no mechanical or electrical skills and can be done in 30 minutes or less.

Things You'll Need

  • 7 mm socket wrench
  • 3/8-inch combination wrench
  • Side cutters
  • WD-40
  • Turn your vehicle's ignition to the "OFF" position and remove the key.

  • Open the factory fuel door on the vehicle. Unscrew the fuel cap and use the side cutters to remove the fuel cap from the fuel door. Replace the fuel cap.

  • Hold the door and carefully remove the two bolts that hold the fuel door to the frame of the vehicle. Use the 7 mm socket wrench to complete this task. Pull the rubber bumper stop from the fuel door.

  • Disassemble the new chrome fuel door, if necessary, to prepare it for installation. Pay close attention to the order in which each nut, bolt and spacer was assembled.

  • Reassemble the chrome fuel door on the vehicle. Use the 3/8-inch wrench to tighten the nuts into place. Pull the door into alignment as you tighten the nuts.

  • Spray a small amount of WD-40 in the hinge mechanism to lubricate the fuel door. Close the fuel door. Your new chrome fuel door is now assembled.
