How Do I Install a Husky Truck Toolbox?

When you go to Home Depot looking for power tools, hand tools and tool storage products, you will find the Husky brand. This is Home Depot's tool brand and is known for high quality for relatively low prices. Husky offers a long line of truck toolboxes, ranging from side-mounted boxes to boxes mounted directly behind the rear window of the truck. Mounting a Husky tool box is a simple process that requires a power drill and a socket wrench. The entire process should take less than 10 minutes to do.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Drill with 5/16-inch bit
  • Socket wrench set
  • Position your Husky toolbox so that it is centered in the bed of the truck and is sitting on the truck's bed rails. Open the lid of the box to make sure you have enough clearance between the box and the cab of the truck to fully open the lid.

  • Mark the underside of the toolbox along the edge of the truck's bed rail. Mark this line on both sides of the toolbox.

  • Remove the toolbox from the bed of the truck.

  • Measure 5/16 of an inch from the line you drew toward the inside of the box. This will be where you drill the hole for the bolts. You want enough room for the 5/16-inch bolt to fit.

  • Drill a hole through the second line that you drew. Do this on both sides of the toolbox.

  • Place the toolbox back into the truck bed on the bed rails. Use the first lines you drew as guides for where to place the box. Slide the J-bolts, included with the toolbox, up through the drilled holes so that the "J" hooks onto the underside of each bed rail. Slip the rubber washer over the top of the bolt and then secure the nut onto the bolt finger-tight. Tighten the nut with the socket wrench until the box is securely fastened. Repeat for both sides of the toolbox.
