Corvette C4 LT1 Performance Tips

Working on improving the performance of a Corvette can be exhilarating, especially when you see the effort turn into quicker acceleration. By improving the Corvette power source, the overall performance of the vehicle will improve as well. There are a few effective ways to make your Corvette faster and improve your driving experience.

Install a Performance Chip

  • If the Corvette was built after 1990, it will have an electronic fuel injection. With an electronic fuel injection, you will be able to manipulate the computer chip that controls the fuel flow of the Corvette. This allows you to remove the standard control and increase the fuel injection flow, which will increase the perfomance of the Corvette.

Purchase an Electric Fan

  • Near the radiator is the engine fan. The fan's primary purpose is to keep the engine cool. If the Corvette is older, the fan will be mechanical. Consider installing an electric one. Electric fans are much more effective and can cool the engine quicker. This allows for better performance and speed.

Install a Turbocharger.

  • Installing a turbocharger can drastically increase the speed and overall performance of the Corvette. Turbochargers compress the air flowing into the engine through the cylinder. Compressing the air increases the Corvette's power.

Increase the Torque

  • Increasing the torque is another way of increasing the horsepower of the Corvette. If you modify the exhaust system and the ECU/fuel-mapping, it will result in an increase in torque.

Measure the Results

  • Before spending time, money and effort to increase the performance of the Corvette, take it to the track and establish an average lap time. After each modification is made, return to the track and establish a new, and hopefully improved, lap time. The distinction will help you determine how effective the modifications have been.
