How to Program a Keyless Entry for a Chevy Silverado

The keyless entry option has become almost standard in many vehicles, including the Chevy Silverado. Occasionally, Silverado owners might find themselves with a remote the manufacturer forgot to program, and remotes purchased separately must also be programmed. It's a task you can do yourself.

  • Sit in the car and check that all the doors are shut. Put the key in the ignition as if you are about to start your Silverado, but don't turn the key. Hold down the "Unlock" button on the driver's side door.

  • Turn the key to in the ignition to start the car, and then turn it off. Repeat this step twice while continuing to hold the "Unlock" button down.

  • Listen for the doors to lock and unlock as you release the "Unlock" switch and the key. When you hear this sound, the Silverado is in program mode.

  • Hold the keyless remote so you can press both "Unlock" and "Lock" at the same time. After each keyless remote is programmed, the doors should lock and unlock to confirm that the process was successful. Do this for each keyless remote you want to program. You can program up to 4 remotes.

  • End programming mode for the Silverado by turning the key in the ignition to make the vehicle start. Test each remote when you exit the vehicle to be sure they all function properly.
