How to Reset a Keyless Chevy Impala

Manufactured by General Motor's Chevrolet division, the Chevy Impala is a full-size automobile that has been in production since 1958. Chevy Impala models with enabled keyless-entry systems allow you to lock or unlock the doors and trunk of your vehicle with a small remote. Occasionally, after the vehicle or remote battery has been changed, the keyless entry remote will malfunction. You can reset the remote to your Chevy Impala in just minutes.

With Driver Information Center Buttons

  • Insert your key into the ignition cylinder of your Chevy Impala. Turn the key to the "On" position to cause the Driver Information Center to show on the digital display screen.

  • Press the "Vehicle Information" button repeatedly until the "Press to Relearn Remote Key" message appears on the digital display.

  • Press the "Set/Reset" button repeatedly until the "Remote Key Learning, Active" message is shown.

  • Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the keyless entry remote until a chime sounds, indicating that the remote has been successfully reset.

  • Repeat Step 4 to reset up to seven additional keyless entry remotes for your Chevy Impala.

  • Turn the key to the "Off" position. Remove it from the Impala's ignition cylinder.

Without Driver Information Center Buttons

  • Insert the key into the Impala's ignition cylinder. Turn it to the "On" position without cranking the engine. Put the car in "Park."

  • Press the "Trip Odometer Reset" button until the "Relearn Remote Key" message appears on the digital display.

  • Hold down the "Trip Odometer Reset" button until the display changes to the "Remote Key Learning, Active" message. Note that you may have to hold the button for up to five seconds before the desired message appears.

  • Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the keyless entry remote to reset it. Hold down the buttons for up to 15 seconds. Release the buttons when a chime sounds to confirm that the remote was successfully reset.

  • Repeat Step 4 to reset an additional seven keyless entry remotes, if desired.

    Turn off the vehicle's ignition and remove the key from the ignition cylinder to end the keyless entry remote programming process.
