How to Program a Honda Pilot Keyless Entry

The Honda Pilot (introduced as a 2003 model) comes standard with remote keyless entry, even on the entry level LX model. If you want to keep an extra remote, or if you lose one of your remotes, you'll need to program a new remote to your vehicle. In order to enter programming mode with the Pilot's RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) module, you'll need to have at least one currently working remote. If you don't, a trip to your Honda dealer is necessary.

  • Gather every remote you have for your Honda Pilot. Even if the remote is already programmed, have it on hand; entering the programming mode erases the codes, which will require all remotes to be reprogrammed.

  • Close all the doors (including the trunk) and sit in the driver's seat. Insert the key into the ignition cylinder; turn it to position "II," as labeled on the ignition. Within five seconds, press and hold the "Lock" button on the working remote for one second. Turn the key off (labeled "I").

  • Repeat Step 2 three more times (for a total of four times), using the same remote you used the first time.

  • Listen for the door locks to make their cycling sound after holding "Lock" for the fourth time. Do not turn the key off; once you hear the sound, the system is in programming mode.

  • Press the "Lock" button on each remote (consecutively) within five seconds of hearing the sound. Each time you press the button, the door locks will cycle again.
