How to Remove a Honda Civic Steering Wheel

The Civic is a model of compact car that has been manufactured by Honda since the early 1970s. This vehicle is great for commuting to work and for short trips around the city. A Civic is known to last a long time, as long as it gets its required maintenance. Eventuallly, you may want to considering customizing the vehicle and one of the easiest items to customize is the steering wheel.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Torx screwdriver (which looks like a six-pointed star)
  • 19mm socket wrench
  • Pop off the screw coverings on either side of the steering wheel with a flathead screwdriver. These should just pop off with pressure.

  • Unscrew the torx screws with the screwdriver. Lift the center of the steering wheel out (this is the airbag).

  • Unhook all of the yellow wires that connect the airbag to the steering wheel. The smaller ones just pull out, but the larger ones have clasps that must be undone before they can be unhooked.

  • Unscrew the bolt in the center of the wheel with the 19mm socket wrench.

  • Pull the steering wheel away from the steering column. Apply pressure to the wheel and keep it steady until the wheel comes free.
