How to Install XM Direct to a Honda Fit

XM satellite radio works by sending the music streams from a system of satellites orbiting the Earth. You can fit this system in any car by using the XM direct connection on any of the company's automotive radios. The Aux connection in your car will accept the wire from the XM radio and give you access to XM's programming.

Things You'll Need

  • XM radio
  • AUX cable
  • Open the door on your Honda Fit and sit down in the driver's seat. Locate the AUX input line on your center dash. If your Honda Fit has a navigation package then it will have a AUX port below the screen. If your Honda Fit does not have the navigation package then the AUX connection will be to the right of the LCD panel on the radio. Plug the AUX cable into the AUX port and let the cable dangle down for now.

  • Place the XM satellite radio mount on the top of your car's dash and secure it down. The suction cup needs to have the control arm rotated up to make it attach to the dash. Slide the XM radio into the mounting arm until it engages with the contacts. Plug the AUX line into the mount and then turn on the XM radio.

  • Turn on your car and select Aux input on your radio or in the navigation screen. Select the radio station on the screen of the XM radio and adjust the volume on the speaks until you can hear the music. Adjust he volume on the XM radio if you do not hear anything. If the XM radio's battery is dead then connect the car charger wire to the mount to power your XM radio. Satellite radio takes a lot of power compared to other radios. Use twist ties to tack up the slack in the Aux cable and the charger cable to keep the wires out of your way.

  • Remove the XM radio from view whenever you leave the car. Just like GPS units, they are tempting targets for car thieves. It would also be wise to remove any mounting hardware as that is an obvious signal that you have expensive electronics in the car.
