What Tires Will Fit on a Tacoma?

The Tacoma is Toyota's popular compact truck, and because it has a wide range of potential uses, both off-road and on, it has a long list of tires that will fit on the model. The tires that should be mounted on the vehicle will also vary with the wheel size.

Original tires

  • Toyota equipped its Tacoma trucks with several wheel options, meaning there are several factory-installed tires. For the 2011 model year, Tacomas with 15-inch steel wheels have P215/70R15 tires. Tacomas with 16-inch styled steel wheels or 16-inch alloy wheels have P245/75R16 tires or P265/70R16 tires. When sold with 17-inch alloy wheels, the Tacomas have P265/65R17 tires. A special 18-inch alloy wheel is also available with a Bridgestone brand Potenza tire of P255/45R18 size. Any of these original tires can be replaced with a tire of similar size.

Highway styles

  • James Toyota, a dealership in Ontario, Canada, offers suggestions for Toyota Tacomas that primarily see duty on the highway. Among those recommendations are the BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A, the Bridgestone Dueler H/L, the Dunlop Grandtrek AT20, Firestone Destination LE, Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor, Michelin Pilot LTX or Cross Terrain SUV, Pirelli Scorpion STR and Uniroyal Laredo AWP. These tires are all made in original equipment sizes and can serve as a replacement for worn originals.

Off-road applications

  • James Toyota also makes several recommendations for tires that are used off the beaten path. Among them are the BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A, the Bridgestone Dueler M/T, the Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT, Firestone Destination M/T and the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor. All of these tires are made for off-road applications. Toyota equips its TRD model Tacoma, which is factory designed specifically for off-roading, with 265/70R16 BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires.
