There are many advantages to increasing the tire size of your vehicle. A larger tire has a greater contact area with the road, giving the vehicle increased load bearing capacity. It will also allow you to install larger brakes, which will improve your vehicle's stopping distance.
If you are upgrading your vehicle from 13-inch to 15-inch tires, you will have no problem getting them to fit the car. However, tires that are any larger than that may rub against the body work or not fit the suspension and brakes.
Park your vehicle and engage the parking brake.
Loosen the nuts on one wheel, but do not remove them. This is not essential, but it will make the job a bit easier.
Insert a jack behind the one of the wheels and raise the vehicle off of the ground. Lower it onto a jack stand.
Unscrew the lug nuts and remove the wheel.
Set the new wheel on a flat surface and place the new tire on top of it. Arrange them so they will be in the correct position to install on the car after the tire is attached to the rim.
Lubricate the inside of the tire wall and the lip (or bead) of the rim with liquid soap.
Force the new tire onto the new rim with a pry bar until one tire wall is all the way on the rim.
Lubricate the other tire wall with liquid soap and use the pry bar to finish installing the tire on the new wheel.
Place the new wheel on the hub of the car.
Thread all the wheel nuts onto the wheel and tighten them as much as possible with a socket set.
Repeat the process for the remaining wheels.
Visit a mechanic as soon as you can to have the wheel nuts tightened and have the wheels balanced. A mechanic can tighten the wheel nuts with a compressed air gun, which will make them more secure than with a socket set.
