How to Install a Miata Hard Top

The Miata is a one-passenger roadster vehicle made by Mazda and was first released in the late 1980s. One standard feature of all the varieties of the Miata is the soft retractable cover for the roof. While the canvas roof provides aesthetic benefits and ease of use, you may find that sometimes a hardtop roof would be very useful. Luckily, if you do buy an after-market hard top, you can easily install it whenever you need to use it and just uninstall it when it is not needed.

  • Open both doors of the car all the way and lower the mounting latches along the front and back edges of the roof.

  • Set the hard top down on the car and line up all of the mounting devices with their coordinating elements on the car.

  • Push the top firmly forward and downward to push it into place. You will have to move back and forth between both sides of the top to make a connection.

  • Push the latches upward to secure the top into place. Connect the defroster wiring into the connection along the front of the roof.
