A car carpet must stand up to daily abuse, as it's nearly impossible to avoid tracking dirt and grime from the bottom of your shoes onto the carpet. In addition, in spite of your best efforts to keep your car carpet clean, it's almost inevitable that the carpet will eventually fall victim to a spill or a difficult stain. Although most stains can be removed with a regular foam cleaner, some specific stains may need special treatment.
Vacuum the carpet thoroughly before attempting to remove any stains. Remove the floor mats.
Spray foam cleaner directly on the stain. Use a foam cleaner made especially for cars or a household foam carpet cleaner. Work the foam into the stain with a hard-bristled brush.
Blot the carpet with a dry towel. Allow the carpet to dry for 24 hours before using your car. If possible, leave the windows down to provide air circulation.
Apply individual treatments to treat specific stains, if necessary. Spray hairspray on ink stains, then blot with a soft rag. Neutralize car sickness stains with a paste made of baking soda and a small amount of water. Alternatively, clean vomit stains with club soda. Use cold water and powdered laundry starch to remove blood. Allow the solution to dry, then vacuum.
