Headlights are designed to be crisp and clear, providing the best possible brightness on the road. Over time, normal road wear and tear will discolor plastic headlight covers with a dull yellow or grayish film, leaving the headlights looking unclean, and emitting light at a lower level. To clean the headlight covers properly, you can use a few simple household ingredients, including toothpaste.
Fill a spray bottle with windshield washer fluid, and spray the headlight covers with a light mist of water.
Scrub the headlight covers to remove loose residue, using circular buffing motions.
Rinse the sponge with fresh water and wipe the headlight covers clean.
Add 1 tbsp. of non-gel toothpaste to the scrubber side of the sponge and buff the covers. Buff in small circular motions, using as much pressure as possible. The nylon material will scrub away residue without scratching the headlight cover surface. Repeat until all residue is removed. Moisten the sponge once more with fresh water and wipe the toothpaste residue off of the surface.
