How to Make Car Deodorizer

Got a stink or musty smell in your car that you just can't get rid of? Baking soda works the same magic in automobiles as it does in refrigerators and freezers. By popping several containers of baking soda into your automobile, you can eliminate mysterious scents and keep them from returning. Storing the baking soda in plastic containers with holes punched in the lids keeps messes to a minimum.

Things You'll Need

  • Three small, plastic yogurt containers with lids
  • Box of baking soda
  • Large needle
  • Packing tape
  • Wash the yogurt containers thoroughly with soap and hot water. Dry the containers and lids completely.

  • Fill each yogurt container halfway with baking soda. If you go above the halfway point, it will be easier for the baking soda to spill out of the containers if they tip onto their sides.

  • Push the needle through the tops of the yogurt containers several times, making 8 to 10 holes in each lid. After you push the needle into the lid, wiggle it around a bit to widen the hole before you slide it through. The holes should be big enough to see, but small enough to minimize spillage if the container tips over.

  • Put the lids on the yogurt containers and use a slim strip of packing tape to secure them to the containers. Store two under the seats and one in a cup holder in your automobile. Replace the baking soda in the containers once every few months.
