How to Install a '55 Chevy Headliner

A 1955 Chevy, because of its age, is considered to be a vintage car. The upholstery in these cars was well made, but it is inevitable that after 50 years or so, things such as the headliner will show their age and need replacing. The headliner in a Chevy is the material that lines the inside of the roof. Installing one is a moderately difficult process, but it can be done without the need of a trained expert.

Things You'll Need

  • Sandpaper
  • Wrench
  • Scissors
  • Spray glue
  • Headliner material
  • Unscrew and set aside the bolts that line the center and corner of the Chevy headliner, using a wrench. Feed the loosened Chevy headliner material through one of the car's back doors.

  • Sand any remaining buildup of adhesive glue left on the now-exposed Chevy roof.

  • Spread a thick coat of adhesive glue all over one side of the replacement Chevy headliner. Push the glued side of the Chevy headliner onto the exposed roof until it sticks without you needing to hold it up.

  • Attach the bolts that you removed previously with the same wrench. Cut all overlapping bits that cover the windows with scissors.
