How to Remove the Center Console in a 2009 Acura MDX

The 2009 MDX, produced by Acura, is a mid-size, luxury sport utility vehicle. The 2009 model is the second generation model of the MDX, and includes cruise control and third-row seating. The center console in your 2009 Acura MDX houses your vehicle's shift modulator. The center console is often used as an armrest, but it is a delicate piece that must be removed with caution.

Things You'll Need

  • Philips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Socket wrench set
  • Open the hood of your MDX. Remove the black negative-connector on your battery to disable any charge.

  • Push your driver and passenger front seats into the rear of your MDX. The seats sit on a rail track, and have a limited amount of space to move. Use the adjuster module located on the bottom-exterior portion of each seat to move them into place.

  • Remove the plastic molding below your MDX's radio. Two finger-clips are located on the sides of the molding. Pinch the clips and pull each out. Pull off the top plastic-molding. Set it aside.

  • Remove the top plastic-shifter-panel directly on top of your center console. Seven finger-clips, two bolts near the drink trays and one screw on the passenger side near the drink trays connect the panel. Remove the screw with the Philips screwdriver. Remove the bolts with the socket wrench. Lift the panel off and set it aside, saving the bolts, clips and screws.

  • Remove the driver's side plastic-molding panel from the center console. Four finger-clips hold the plastic molding panel in place. Remove and save each finger clip. Use your flathead screwdriver to pry off the panel.

  • Remove the passenger side plastic-panel from the center console. The passenger side plastic-panel has four finger-clips. Pry it from the center console with your flathead screwdriver.

  • Remove the rear plastic-panel of the center console. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the screws, and pinch the clips free with your fingers. Disconnect the electric connector attached to the panel by pulling from the clip's head, not the wire itself.

  • Extract the eight bolts attached to the base of your MDX's center console using your socket wrench. Lift and remove the center console.
