How to Replace the Running Light in a 2001 Chevy Truck

The daytime running lights on a 2001 Chevy truck like the Chevy Silverado are located inside the front headlight housing. On the 2001 Silverado, a chrome bar that runs across the front grille splits the headlight lens in half. The bottom lens houses the daytime running light. Replacement of the light is relatively straightforward and mirrors the process for changing the headlight bulb.

  • Open the hood on the Chevy truck and support it with the hood prop.

  • Locate the back of the headlight housing. You will find a socket plugged into the top half of the housing and another plugged into the bottom half of the housing.

  • Turn the socket plugged into the bottom half of the housing counterclockwise a quarter-turn as you pull the socket out of the housing.

  • Pull the old bulb out of the socket and press the new bulb into the socket.

  • Place the socket into the Silverado's headlight housing and turn the socket clockwise a quarter-turn to lock it in place.

  • Remove the hood from the hood prop and close the hood.
