Select Audi models have leather seats as their factory standard, but it is available as a custom option for all models. Like all leather, the Audi’s upholstery will require periodic treatments and conditioners to keep it looking and functioning at its best.
Audi offers three different grades of leather for the interiors of their cars: Valetta, Fine Nappa and Leather/Alcantara. Regardless of which grade you choose, the treatment will be the same.
New leather is fully conditioned and will not require conditioner for 60 to 90 days. Beyond that, the timeframe depends on the climate where you live. Leather seats in hot states, particularly in the summer, would benefit from monthly conditionings. Cooler climates and winter months will stretch that interval to 90 to 120 days.
The leather used in high-end vehicles like the Audi should be cleaned with a product in the 5 to 5.5 pH range. Anything more acidic is likely to de-tan the hide. Cleaning and conditioning products like Lexol, Zymol or a specific Audi leather care kit are best suited for leather care.
Vacuum the seats first then wipe them down with warm water. Apply leather cleaner and work it in. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Wipe off the residue, repeating until clean. Apply leather conditioner to warm (not hot) leather and work it in, paying special attention to the seams. Leave it on for six-plus hours before wiping away residue with a damp cloth.
