How to Clean Neoprene Seat Covers

Neoprene seat covers protect seats from water damage and UV rays. Neoprene is a durable, yet flexible synthetic rubber that resists most stains. Because of these qualities, this material is used for many things, including wet suits, protective gloves, cell phone covers and laptop covers. Cleaning your neoprene seat covers generally requires little time or effort. You will need only a few cleaning supplies.

Things You'll Need

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Mild detergent (or neoprene shampoo)
  • Water
  • Sponge
  • Cloths
  • Hair dryer
  • Use your vacuum cleaner’s hose attachment to vacuum the seat covers.

  • Mix a tablespoon of mild detergent (or neoprene shampoo) in a bucket of warm water (use 2 gallons of water). Dip your sponge in the bucket of cleaning solution and scrub the neoprene seat covers. When you have scrubbed all the seat covers, then rinse out your sponge (or get a new one).

  • Wet your rinsed or new sponge in clean water. Wipe down the seat covers to rinse them.

  • Dry the seat covers with a hair dryer on an air-dry (no heat) setting or by reversing your vacuum cleaner to propel air. Make sure that the attachment tube is clean, so that it does not spew dirt particles over your newly cleaned seats.
