How to Replace the Engine Mount on a 1998 Cadillac DeVille

The 1998 Cadillac DeVille has a V8 engine and three engine mounts, two on the front right and left bottom of the engine and one towards the rear in front of the transmission. The process for replacing all three of the engine mounts is the same. The engine mounts are small rubber pieces mounted between the engine and the frame. There is a securing bolt in the middle of each mount.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • Ratchet set
  • New engine mounts
  • Jack up the front end of the Cadillac DeVille and set the front end onto jack stands. Slide under the frame and locate the engine mounts.

  • Place the jack under the Cadillac's oil pan and raise it slightly to shift the weight of the engine from the engine mounts. Remove the securing bolt from the middle of one of the engine mounts using the ratchet set.

  • Pull the engine mount from the engine mount fitting then insert the new engine mount into the engine mount fitting. Replace the securing bolt to the engine mount and tighten using the ratchet set.

  • Repeat the above steps for the two remaining engine mounts if necessary.
