The 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan had three available engines and two transmissions. The base setup was a 3.3-liter V-6 paired up with a four-speed automatic transmission. Only models with this standard setup had a transmission dipstick for checking the transmission fluid level. The remaining models all had a sealed transmission that only the dealership can check. If the fluid in your 2009 Grand Caravan is low, simply add new ATF+4 fluid through the dipstick tube, via a funnel, until it reaches the correct level.
Park the van on a level surface, then start its engine and let it idle for 60 seconds. Hold the brake pedal, and shift the gear shifter into every gear for about one second. Return the gear shifter to "Park," and leave the engine idling. Open the hood and find the transmission dipstick -- the yellow-handled dipstick on the driver side of the engine. Wipe the area around the dipstick off with a clean, lint-free cloth, then pull the dipstick from its tube. Wipe the oil from the dipstick with a clean, lit-free cloth, and reinsert the dipstick all the way into its tube. Remove the dipstick again and check where the oil reaches on the stick. If the engine is not at operating temperature -- roughly halfway up the temperature gauge -- then the oil should be between the two lower holes marked "Cold." If the engine is at operating temperature, the fluid should be between the two upper holes marked "Hot."
If needed, add fluid a bit at a time and recheck -- don't overfill.
