How to Troubleshoot the Pontiac Vibe

The Pontiac Vibe was a sports wagon manufactured by the General Motors Company. The Vibe was discontinued in 2010 when General Motors dropped all Pontiac vehicles. If you own a Pontiac Vibe, it comes equipped with an OBD-II built-in computer. This computer will detect any trouble with the vehicle's systems and trigger dash lights as necessary to let you know there's an issue. A diagnosis using the OBD-II diagnostic tool will give you a code that can be matched in your owner's manual, thus making troubleshooting the specific problem with your Pontiac Vibe much easier.

Things You'll Need

  • Owner's manual
  • OBD-II diagnostic scanner
  • Remove the fuse box cover on the driver's side of the dashboard, by gently pulling up. Locate the multiple-pin port on the fuse box and plug the diagnostic tool directly into the port. Turn your Vibe's ignition switch to the "On" position.

  • Start the OBD-II diagnostic scanner by powering it to the "On" position. Wait for it to download any trouble codes.

  • Unplug the tool from the multiple-pin port carefully. Close the fuse box cover on the Vibe. Scroll down on the diagnostic tool menu and choose the "Retrieve" option. The OBD-II reader will report any codes stored in the computer that are causing your Vibe issues.

  • Reference all codes that you have downloaded in the previous step to the owner's manual troubleshooting codes for your Pontiac Vibe.
