How to Remove a Battery From a Mercedes

The battery in your Mercedes powers your ignition, lights, radio and other components. Without it, your Mercedes will not run. Whether your battery has died completely or your Mercedes needs maintenance and you want to remove the battery for safety reasons, removing it only takes a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Combination wrench
  • Owner’s manual
  • Allow your engine to cool for a half-hour before beginning any work under the hood.

  • Open the hood of your Mercedes by pulling the hood release tab inside the vehicle. Locate the battery. If necessary, refer to your owner’s manual.

  • Using a combination wrench, loosen the nuts connecting the battery to the negative cable. The negative cable is black. Remove the cable from the battery.

  • Loosen the nuts connecting the cable to the positive cable, which is red. Gently lift the battery out of the vehicle. Be careful, as the battery weighs about 30 pounds. Dispose of the battery per your local regulations.
