How to Troubleshoot and Repair Jenson Car Stereos

Jensen manufactures a variety of car, watercraft and RV stereos. All Jensen stereos offer radio while some offer the additional tools of CD and auxiliary input. Though the troubleshooting process varies slightly depending on the stereo model, you should be able to fix small problems. Stereos problems sometimes point to a further car problems such as faulty wiring or blown fuses. If you cannot fix the Jensen stereo yourself, enlist the help of a stereo technician or a mechanic.

  • Screwdriver
  • Remove the CD from your CD player. Wipe the CD with a clean cloth and reinsert it into the CD player.

  • Unscrew the screws that mount the stereo to the dash of your car. Set the screws aside. Pull the stereo away from the dash.

  • Examine the wires of the Jensen stereo. Check that the stereo is properly connected to the fuse. Examine the wires that connect to the splices and speakers. If the speaker wires are exposed, insulate any bare wires.

  • Fix problems caused by blown fuses. Examine the power wire and speaker wire and straighten them to ensure they are not pinched.

  • Push your stereo back into the dash and reattach the screws. Turn the car on and attempt to use the stereo. If the sound does not play, your speakers may be busted and may require replacement.

  • Examine the stereo's buttons. Press "Play" to play a CD. Press the radio button to change to radio. Turn the radio tuner to a functioning frequency. Check the headphone jack to ensure no headphones are plugged in. Press the auxiliary button to change to an MP3 player input.
