How to Take Out a Saturn Ion Battery

Although the Saturn Ion has been acclaimed for its many features from many of its owners, you will not be able to use any of them with a dead battery. In order to change the Ion's battery, you will need to feel comfortable lifting 40 pounds. If you haven't ever removed the battery from a Saturn Ion before, you can safely remove the battery from its compartment with some proper instruction.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Pull the "Hood Release" lever to open your Ion's hood, so that you can access the battery. The "Hood release" lever can be found between the driver's seat and the door.

  • Disconnect the negative (-) terminal connector by loosening the wingnut with the socket wrench, then pulling the connector off of the battery terminal. Repeat this for positive (+) terminal connector as well, then set them clear out of the way from the battery.

  • Use both hands to get a secure hold on the battery, slowly lift it out of its compartment, then sit it on the ground. Your Ion is now ready for its new battery to be installed.
