How to Replace a C6 Transmission Dipstick Tube

The C6 transmission is a popular automatic transmission used by Ford. This transmission has been in use since 1970, and is still in use as of 2010. The proper care, including scheduled transmission fluid and filter changes, will extend the life of the transmission. The C6 dipstick should be replaced if there is any damage or leaks.

  • Clean the exterior of the dipstick filler tube. The tube is located on the left side of the engine, or the passenger side. Be sure to remove any loose grease or dirt from around the area to protect the port after the tube is removed.

  • Remove the dipstick from the filler tube and set out of the way. If a new dipstick has been purchased, measure the new dipstick against the one removed.

  • Remove the retaining bolt, which is located near the top of the filler tube and is bolted to the side of the engine block.

  • Remove the dipstick filler tube by unscrewing it. Measure old tube against the new tube.

  • Replace the new C6 transmission dipstick and dipstick filler tube by reversing the order of the previous steps.
