How to Change Interior Light Bulbs on a Cavalier

Interior light bulbs on a Chevrolet Cavalier are relatively simple to change. While it will be pretty obvious if the lights go out, you may want to periodically check the courtesy lights and dome light to make sure they're functioning properly. If the lights do go out, check the fuse for the interior lights in the dash panel first, because if it's a blown fuse, you must replace that. You can buy replacement interior light bulbs from any auto parts store. You'll need the year and model of your Cavalier.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Replacement light bulbs
  • Wedge the tip of the screwdriver underneath the notch in the lens. All of the interior lights in the Cavalier should have a notch cut into the lens for easy removal of the lens cover.

  • Pry the lens off and set it aside.

  • Pull the old light bulb out of the housing. The bulb has two contacts on the base of the bulb. These are very small bulbs that are held in place by friction. Removing them is as easy as pulling them straight out of the housing.

  • Insert the new bulb into the housing and replace the lens. It should snap into place on the housing.
