How to Replace New Beetle Fog Lights

The fog lights on the Volkswagen New Beetle increase the driver's visibility when driving in fog. The fog lights are mounted as close to the road as possible to cast light under the fog and illuminate the roadway. The fog light bulbs can be accessed and easily changed once the front end of the New Beetle has been raised. Replacing the fog light bulbs yourself will save you the time and money of having to visit a repair shop.

Things You'll Need

  • Vehicle jack
  • Jack stands
  • Tire chocks
  • Turn the fog lights on and off to identify the inoperative light. Set the emergency brake and chock the rear tires. Jack up the front end and secure it with jack stands.

  • Twist the rear of the fog light housing in a counterclockwise direction until it pulls away from the bracket. Release the metal clip that secures the fog light bulb in the bulb holder.

  • Remove the old bulb from the bulb holder. Install the new bulb and lock the metal clip. Insert the housing into the bracket and rotate in a clockwise direction until tight.

  • Turn the fog lights on and off to make sure the new bulb operates correctly. Raise the vehicle and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle and remove the rear tire chocks.
