Each model year of the Mazda 6 is equipped with a cabin air filter that prevents allergens and dust from entering the passenger cabin through the ventilation system. When the cabin air filter becomes dirty, replace it to keep the air clean. Mazda recommends replacing the cabin air filter in the Mazda 6 every 25,000 miles or every 24 months. Driving on dusty roads or in thick traffic will cause the filter to become dirty more quickly. These instructions pertain to the 2010 Mazda 6, but the procedure is similar for earlier models.
Open the glove box. Press both walls of the glove box in toward the middle to detach it from the dash.
Pull the glove box forward and allow it to pivot toward the floor of the car.
Pull the cabin air filter cover down and toward the rear of the car to remove it.
Pull the existing cabin air filter straight out from the dash to remove it.
Insert the new filter into the filter compartment. Make sure the "Air Flow" arrow printed on the filter is pointing toward the floor of the car.
Replace the cabin air filter cover. Press on the cover until the tabs snap into place.
Lift the glove box up. Press the sides of the glove box and close it to hook it to the dash.
