Turn Signal Bulb Replacement Instructions

Many car repairs should be left to a trained mechanic, such as replacing a fuel pump. However, there are a few repairs anyone can do. Most vehicle manufacturers have simple instructions for replacing a turn signal bulb. There are useful diagrams in your vehicle's owners manual. You only need a few---if any---tools to change the turn signal bulb. Replacement bulbs are available at any auto parts store.

  • Remove the light assembly from the vehicle, if necessary. Often you must pull it straight out of the car. Some BMW vehicles only require you to reach into the engine compartment and remove a plastic bulb cover.

  • Pull the bulb socket out of the assembly. Often you must turn it counterclockwise and pull it straight out. Sometimes a wire clip must be pushed aside before removing the socket.

  • Detach the electrical connector from the back of the bulb.

  • Pull the old bulb out of the socket. The bulb usually pulls straight out.

  • Reverse steps 1 through 4 to reinstall the socket and assembly.
