Over time, sludge and impurities can form in your 2008 Nissan Altima's oil, causing accelerated wear and tear on the internal parts of your engine. It is critical to change the oil in your Altima regularly in order to maintain a clean and smooth-running engine. Change the oil by draining the old oil from the engine block, removing the old oil filter and replacing them with new oil and a new oil filter.
Start your car and run it for approximately 15 minutes to warm the oil and circulate it through the engine block. Turn the car off.
Place an oil receptacle beneath your oil pan which is located on the underside of the engine.
Remove the oil drain plug with the ratchet and socket and allow the oil to completely drain from the engine block into the oil receptacle.
Remove the old oil filter with a band wrench and allow the excess oil from the old filter to drain into the oil receptacle.
Wipe the oil drain-pan hole clean with a rag and replace the old oil drain-plug gasket with a new one. Place the oil drain-plug into to the oil drain-pan hole and tighten firmly with the ratchet.
Rub a small amount of oil on the new oil-filter gasket and screw the new oil filter into place.
Find your oil fill cap, remove it and fill your Nissan Altima with 4.5 quarts of SAE 5W-30 motor oil.
Start up the car and allow it to run for 10 minutes so that the oil may circulate through the engine block. Turn the car off.
Check your oil dipstick--located near the oil filler cap--and top off with more oil as necessary until the oil line reads "Full."
